Hello, Tom here.
I’ve been working over the past six months to get Piscataqua Press up and running. Boy, is there a lot to learn! It’s clear that the world of independent, digital publishing is in some ways easy, in some ways very difficult (a bit like building a WordPress site!!)
Things you think will be a snap turn out to take hours– struggling with fonts and formats and headers. Things you think are going to be hard turn out to be easy–in our case, publicity.
So far, we’ve only announced details about Piscataqua Press to our email newsletter and on our website, but word has gotten around. Just through word of mouth we have 8 books in the pipeline, and hope to do 15 to 20 books total in 2012.
While much of the process is new and strange to me, I think we have a great future in this business because of two strengths we have here at RiverRun:
1) We know what a good book looks like. For years, self-published books have often looked just terrible. The technology exists now to make beautiful books, so we don’t see any excuse for not making beautiful books. After a decade in the book business, we have an innate sense for book design.
2) Customer Service. We are well aware that in this day and age any author can go online and self-publish their book without any help, so why hire us? You should hire us if you want somebody to work one on one with you to make the best book possible. Someone you can actually talk to in person.
We think bookstores making books makes perfect sense. If you are looking for local, dependable way to get your book published, give us a call. 603-431-2100. We don’t have a phone tree, we promise, just a person.
